Llangynidr to Llangattock

the Black Mountains including Sugar Loaf (on the right) under a dusting of snow, from Llangattock
Up at 0700 and out of the cottage by 0830. Dropped off the bike at bridge 115, Llangattock, and then drove to Llangynidr. Parked in the Coach and Horses car park and set off at 0915, walking towards Llangattock. It was good to have an early start - it was almost like when we’re on a boat! Good walking weather: cold wind but very sunny. That meant we kept our fleeces/coats on to lessen the weight in our rucksacks, but we enjoyed fine conditions. We covered the five miles to Llangattock in two hours, and decided to continue with John pushing the bike. This worked well, as he could stop to take photographs and then catch up with Jan on the bike. We walked all the way back to the cottage at Llanwenarth - well, John cycled the last couple of miles to try to get back in time for most of the F1 Grand Prix. (I missed the first ten laps, and the race wasn’t that interesting.) As it started to snow I decided I’d better cycle back to get the car. (Durrr!) It took about an hour to get there, mostly by road, just the first bit along the towpath. Sunglasses were useful in keeping the driving snow out of my eyes. Driving back took twenty minutes. Jan, meanwhile, had cooked herself some lunch, mine was waiting for me when I got in: a very welcome fry-up.
