As I was helping to work Kew up the Curdworth Locks on the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal a scurrying movement by my feet caught my eye.
I thought it was a strange spider, so I took a close-up photograph of it.
Not a spider at all, but what looks like a grasshopper.
And I could see clearly what it was only when I looked at the photo on my computer. As I say, I need my eyes tested. I'll have to see my son-in-law ...

Thanks Ian - not a grasshopper at all. It looked like it had wings folded over its body.
They can fly, that's how they populate new bodies of water.
