Thin bridge near Braunston

Was this bridge built like this, or have the parapets fallen off to be replaced by chains and posts? It's on the Oxford/Grand Union between Napton Junction and Braunston (Bridge 101?)

I suppose it demonstrates the power of the arch, but it does look rather insubstantial. The flaking off concrete rendering doesn't exactly enhance the edifice.

The parapets were in poor condition and were taken off by BW last year. I was held up briefly as it was done without a stoppsge, so could probably narrow down the date from my cruising log.

It looks very fragile like that. I have just read Andy's comment so now I'm wondering if they will replace the parapets.
