Anyone working through Aqueduct Lock on the Lee Navigation in the summer could hardly have failed to notice the dazzling display of flowers in the adjacent lock cottage garden.
In stark contrast, next to the formal garden is what looks like a pile of rubble.
But is it a recently demolished building ... or a work of art?
Look closer and you can see that arranged among the bricks are birds and gnomes.
All is not what it seems at the cottage either. Stay a while and ponder the curious spelling of "acqueduct".
And the cat, just standing there, paw resting on the gate, deep in thought? Boating looks fun!

I renewed the roof on the lock cottage here. The pile of rubble is the cottage that stood next door. It caught fire but the fire engines couldn't get along the river to put it out. It just burnt down.

Dan, thank you very much for leaving your comment. It's good to have an answer to the riddle, and it's a shame that the cottage was destroyed. We'll have to make a return trip to the Lee and Stort soon.
