We woke up to ice on the cut.
Ice!
How long would it last? I poured myself some muesli (everyone else was still in bed) and added milk. We'd left the milk outside as we had an idea that it would be cold overnight. As I poured it onto my breakfast, lumps of ice came out!
As I was taking some photos of the (reasonably) early sunny icy scene a boat came icebreaking towards us. Good - we can get going and use its freshly carved channel.
So we did, but we still scrunched along the loose sheets which were about 1/4 inch thick.
We made good progress in the gloriously sunny conditions. It took a long time to warm up, but, eventually, there was heat in the sun.
At Hawkesbury Junction we were waved on by a hire boat struggling to make the U-turn, then watered up.
Further along the Coventry Canal we stopped at Nuneaton for a look round the town.
At Atherstone we did the first five locks, then tied up for the night in the longer pound between Lock 5 and Lock 6. Some of our party investigated the King's Head pub and reported that it looked good for food, so off we went.
Battery getting low again, so I'll publish now and add more details later.
