Have we not had enough snow this year?

Apparently not.

It started raining at about 6pm yesterday, and has continued through the night, into the morning, and afternoon, when it turned into snow. As I write, it is still snowing here in Norwich (nearly midnight, i.e. 30 hours since it started).

We trudged through the snow and slush to Adrian and Willie's house where we enjoyed an excellent meal and conversation. To add to the occasion an interesting insect made an appearance.

Now, where's my book of wildlife? I've tried to identify this online but without success.

edited to add location

Thanks, Paula, but I don't think it's a locust borer. The one I photographed doesn't have enough yellow stripes on its head or thorax.

Interesting bug, but what about that snow?? We had a few flakes here today, but I reckon it's too cold to snow. It's absolutely freezing.

It snowed some more today, Val, but no more than half an inch. It's now about freezing point outside.

Hi Halfie

I've asked an expert now, he thinks it may be a long horned black and yellow beetle, these are more common in this country and apparently long horned beetles do vary in colours and markings quite considerably!

Beyond that I give up!

Paula, thanks for your help. I've looked at loads of images of long horned beetles and can't find one that looks like my photo!

Hi Halfie

Last time I promise but I to was very interested in your insect! The friend I asked is a professor in zoology and parasiticology and he's convinced that what it is, he found a picture on safari garden.net that was very similar but he did say they vary enormously!
