Preparing a talk on our Thames adventures

This evening Jan and I have been preparing for a talk we'll be giving on Friday. Lots of people from the village have signed up to indicate that they'd like to come and hear about our exploits on the Thames last summer. You know, where we lost a propeller or two, and I got a bit wet - not once, not twice, but three times.

This is the first time I've done anything on Microsoft PowerPoint (on the PC laptop), so I hope it all works OK. I'm slightly worried that photos which "overhang" the borders of the slides will cause a problem. We should find that out tomorrow, though, when we try it with a projector.

Where are you giving the talk? How do people know about it?

The talk will be in the Methodist Church. It has been publicised in the village magazine, and in the Anglican and Methodist churches.

Good Luck. We gave one to Arthritis Care in September. Even though we tested everything before hand we could not display the pictures when we set up in the hall. Fortunately I had my computer dongle with me and googled the problem. The solution was function F4. It is funny how the computer and projector worked the first time without having to do anything but when it comes to the actual run things invariably go wrong. We were about 3 minutes away from the start when the pictures appeared on the screen - relief.

Thanks Alan and Nev. I looked at the ad - we like almost everything about the boat except the fact that it's four feet too long!

What difference does four feet make?

H.S., four feet too long means that the boat wouldn't be able to cruise all the navigable system. Locks on some canals, notably the Leeds and Liverpool, won't take boats longer than about 58 feet.

Actually, I've just looked through Waterscape's dimensions guide http://www.waterscape.com/media/documents/23837 and found that the only restriction below 62 feet is a lock on the Huddersfield Broad Canal at just under 58 feet (but a 58 feet boat will fit diagonally).

So perhaps the boat would be OK after all ...

Halfie,

Just looked at it in more detail. Seems a real bargain if the shell is ok. Some TLC and maybe a paint job down the line ad you have a really practical boat. Wouldn't mind a look myself....;-) Don't miss this one.

Ps I hope you go down well tomorrow - just remember they are your friends and there to support you,
