What to do when the BW workboat gets stuck

A little further on our towpath walk along the Stratford Canal we came across an interesting scene by Bridge 11.

A BW workboat was stuck in the channel right by the bridgehole. One of its legs wouldn't retract, apparently. So the BW man was encouraging the Canaltime boat to try to push it out of the way.

Well, the gap was too narrow, and, despite the name of the Canaltime boat,

Rammy Line No. 74, it couldn't ram past the workboat. Not even when Jan and I applied our muscle power too. Eventually the BW chap suggested going round the other side of the stuck boat. This, after a lot of shuffling of the tug boat, worked much better. The Americans on the Canaltime boat got through the bridgehole and we carried on our walk.
