Nine week cruise - day 38 - Monday 8th August 2005
Whitchurch to Chirk
goodbye England
croeso i Cymru
Up at 0700 (both) and off at 0720. At about 1230 we stopped at Blackwater Marina at Ellesmere for a pumpout (£14) and a tin of grease (£3). Then we went slowly down the Ellesmere arm, which was lined with end-to-end moored boats, winded in the basin, and retraced our route to the junction. We explored Ellesmere, so we must have tied up somewhere. Back on board, we continued towards LLangollen, encountering a three-boat queue at New Marton locks.
At 1950 we crossed the spectacular stone Chirk Aqueduct, with the railway viaduct for company, and dived straight into Chirk Tunnel. This was particularly good for making noises in, as we tested with our voices in the evening. We moored just past the tunnel at 2015. David and I nearly got locked in the pub later - well, they invited us to stay for a lock-in. We declined and went back to the boat.
