It's a grating in the towpath on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, visible in the foreground of the photo below.
I don't know what the gratings are for. Any suggestions?

We saw Shadow at Braunston on Christmas Eve, presumably having winter maintenence carried out.

I also spotted Shadow at Braunston yesterday. Five or six years ago you would nave seen at least half a dozen OwnerShips boats in the arm at Braunston or moored just outside and always one in the dry dock.
The arm was looking decidedly empty with most of the boats on brokerage.
