While moving logs at home today I came across this little beastie.
A quick search on the internet suggests that this is the red lily beetle.

Yes it is a red lily beetle, they devour fritillaries as well as other things, and are partial to the flowers/flower heads of a plant. They drop to the ground and bury themselves in the soil when they feel in danger.
Kill any you see!
Not sure if we have any lilies or fritillaries in our garden, but it doesn't sound like a very friendly bug. Don't suppose I'll see it again, though.
their lava get covered in a green gooey mess on the underside of foliage, where there is one there will be more, especially when it is sheltered warm, and sunny.
He's a very handsome chap, that's for sure!
