Curious red ash on the plate below the flue of the Morsø Squirrel
When I swept the flue of Jubilee's stove at the end of summer I cleared a lot of red ash from the angled plate which sits below the flue, above the firebox. Unfortunately I neglected to take a photo. Is this the remnants of a "flue cleaning" chemical?
We'll be back at the boat soon, visiting Ally and Ben, and doing more jobs. And replenishing their wood pile!

Rust?
Yeah, I always find some there, and assume it's rust. The other possibility is brick dust from the solid fuel, but that seems less likely.

Rust! Why hadn't I thought of that? I suppose it's from the flue itself, gradually thinning from the inside out...
I recall a blogger's chimney getting so thin it pinholed eventually, not suggesting this would be case on your boat John, When we do not have a fire in we cap off the chimney as we get rain in, which would not help the rusting.
I have heard of this plate being removalble, seems stuck solid on mine - is there a knack?

I was able to slide it such that the debris fell into the grate. It's call the baffle plate. (How to move it is obviously baffling you!)
